5/2010

  • Our registration for the Pressure Sensor workshop has been slow - I added a front page article on 5/12 - the invitation we sent out directs the folks to our website front page but it wasn't crystal clear where to go from there (SCME Events drop down menu...).
  • Added a bunch of links to our web-links page.  Also several articles - including more SIPI updates!

4/27/2010 - I've added a bit to the web site including a Job Links drop down menu - eventually this will grow into a student centric component of our website.  We also added a new category in our WEB Links section for Native American links - I added a link to "Think Indian" a blog spot for the Native American College Fund CEO, as of today, the top story is on SIPI graduation and has a really nice slide show.

4/7/2010 - Added information to the MTTC Events article and a link to Cosmiac under our Partner Links - Cosmiac is a local organization which has developed materials and provides education and training on reconfigureable microelectronics including FPGA's as well as research on Space Weather. Their mission is to "Propel the use of reconfigureable electronics and microsystems in aerospace and defense systems"

4/1/2010 - Added the MTTC Events link in the Main Menu - give everyone an overview of how the SCME and its partners leverage UNM's MTTC Cleanroom. Matt's also added another link to SIPI students Wind Turbine Project presentations - check out SIPI News!

3.18.2010 - Check out SIPI's News - Student Wind Turbine Team is selected for National 2010 Indian Education Renewable Energy Challenge!

3.16.2010 - MJ did a great job making the Educationa Materials section better - check it out! It is easier to find what you need.  Also - for us "special folks" - I added a summary of my meeting with Fred Youberg.

3.7.2010 - Check out the SCME Events drop down at the top of the page - I've added an article letting you all know what we are planning, and links to several upcoming conferences we plan to participate in.  I also added a link to UNM's Manufacturing Engineering web site - see Partner Links for that.

3.3.2010 - Check out "SIPI News" - Dr. Vadiee's students have been very busy!   We've added several learning modules over the last few weeks as well.

2.24.2010 - We've added a bunch of educational materials to the website for our registered users!  Check them out.  As a registered user, check out the forum section - I've added a controversial thread - apparently, teachers are doing a poor job encouraging students to pursue STEM fields - I don't think this is true, but that's the perception - go to the forum for more info and post your ideas!

2.1.2010 - We've been very busy!  You may of noticed, we are now uploading our Learning Modules to the document section - you have to be a registered user to see these.  So, STEM instructors, please register on the site!  I'm adding news clips from SIPI almost every week now, they are really busy folks - check out the partner news.   I've been checking the forum section - so far no one has used it.

1/19/2010 - I added a new function to the website - a calendar.  It interfaces with Google Calendars.  I will eventually make this available to the public, right now it is only for registered users.

Welcome to the New SCME Website!

Welcome to the SCME-NM.org Website!

Funded by the National Science Foundation, DUE #0902411

My name is Matthias Pleil, I am the Principal Investigator for the Southwest Center for Microsystems Education, a National Science Foundation supported Advanced Technological Education Center - see the "About Us" link for more information.

If you are a STEM faculty at a secondary or post-secondary institution, then this site may be for you!  The SCME offers professional development and educational materials to excite and engage secondary and post secondary students in the field of Microsystems (MEMS) technology.  This is a fast growing, multidisciplinary field.  Microsystems products are found in all the gadgets we use today and require a high level of technical skills by the people who manufacture, design and integrate these devices.  By engaging students in learning where these Microsystems are used, how they are made and why they should care, we, as educators, can get them to see the relevancy and importance in learning Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

*** To become a registered user, select "Create an Account" shown on the left column and follow the simple instruction.  As a registered user, you will have access to additional educational materials than just the few samples for the public.

Registered users also have access to the Forum - Check it out!    ***** SCROLL DOWN FOR MORE *****
